Black Unity is not a new idea for Black Folks in Worcester.
Black Unity is not a new idea for Black Folks in Worcester. In fact, Worcester’s Black Elders lived in a united Black Worcester. However, as Black Neighborhoods were integrated into the larger community, we lost our unity. We lost our neighborhood Black businesses. We lost neighbors who kept an eye on each other’s children. We even lost our neighborhood churches, with ministers who would stop by to pay a visit.
Today, more effort is required to develop relationships and build community. The Black Unity Committee, which was formed in 2008, is one such effort.
The Black Unity Committee of Greater Worcester is dedicated to making a positive difference in the Black Community by promoting spiritual and physical health, understanding, respect and inclusion through advocacy conflict resolution and education.
The Black Unity Committee is making a difference in the Black Community through organizing and collaborating in the following initiatives:
The strength of our community is a reflection of our unity. As Black people, we have an obligation to restore our community for those who labored before us and, especially, for those who now rely upon us.
All are welcome to participate on the Black Unity Committee. Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month, at 6pm at the YWCA, One Salem Square. For more information, contact
